October 2008: Successful Visit

We are happy to report that we had a very successful journey to Cameroon a few weeks ago. A film crew (Jim Ritvo and David Raizman) accompanied us and hopefully this will eventuate in a 20 minute short documentary and possibly an eventual full feature film.

In an effort to characterize the causes of chronic renal failure in Cameroon we were able to establish a data base involving 2,000 people and, remarkably, with the help of the Bali people, we were able to obtain this in four days!

The dialysis unit Yaounde is running well, and our patients are healthy.

The possible unit at Mbingo is still on hold as the Baptist hospital there ran low on funding to create the building in which our unit would be housed.

On the other hand we have had an invitation to establish a dialysis unit in another sub-Saharan country and have met with representatives in Washington to explore this possibility. More on this as things develop.
